Introduction

I've been interested in Art and Photography for a long time, but it wasn't until a some years ago that I decided to do it for myself. This site contains some standard photography I've taken over the recent years, some astronomy related photographs taken with the help of my telescope, and my most recent interest, panoramic photography.

In addition, I recently discovered the smartphone Instagram app, and have shared the photos I've taken with my iPhone 3GS on my instagram page.

Links to all four of these sections will always be available from the top-right image-links on every page on this site.

Mobile Site

A lot of work has been placed into creating a mobile-device friendly version of this site. Feel free to visit from your smartphone as well as any other type of devices. A mechanism is in place to automatically direct your device to the preferred format of this site, but in case the wrong choice is made, you can easily switch format. There is a link at the bottom-left of every page allowing you to change at any time.

Locations

Most photo pages include a map location of where I was when the photo was taken. This would allow you, in the event that you'd like to duplicate the photo for yourself, to be in the same place I was when I took the pictures. It's important to rememeber however, that these coordinates are placed from memory, and because of the technology used to get the coordinates, they are not 100% accurate; they are the closest approximation I was able to put down.

Facebook Integration, Likes and Comments

I wanted a way for visitors to tell me they liked a particular photo, so below each photo, you'll find a Facebook "like" button. Near the bottom of each photo and album page you'll also find a place to comment. That mechanism is tied to Facebook so you might need to log in, in order to like or comment. You can now comment on any individual or even on an entire album if you wish. New photos posted obviously have no "likes" or comments yet, so feel free to be the first to like or comment on a photo!

Search and Tags

I have added tags to photos so that you can search for specific photos that may be related across albums. Just enter words into the search box found at the bottom of every page and click the search button (or type <enter>). Also, on each photo page, you'll see that photo's tags just above the Permalink. Clicking on any tag will do a search for all photos containing that tag. Search results will be sorted depending on whether the photo was found on a full match, or a partial match of your request, then in subcategories by type of photo. You can also try searching here below.

Watermarks

The images found on this site do not have visible watermarks or copyrights embedded into the image. This does NOT mean the images are without copyright (see below). The images posted however have been saved in a lower quality than the originals and are smaller in size. The images posted purposefully do not make for good printing quality. The originals however, are great for printing.

Optimizations

In order to make the site pages load as quickly as possible on all platforms, all images and photos have been optimized to their smallest size for fast downloading. Where regular photos are originally around 5,000KB, those photos posted on this site are less than 300KB. As for panoramic photos which can be anywhere between 10,000KB to 100,000KB, those photos posted are less than 1,000KB for the regular site and less than 500KB on the mobile site. (This is also why you would not want to print the photos downloaded directly from the site)

Permalinks

Because I wanted to be able to reorder photos within an album, or even move a photo or set of photos to a different album, you shouldn't ever bookmark a particular photo page. Instead, each page contains a permanent link (Permalink) below each photo's description. As the name implies, a permalink is designed never to change. For this reason, feel free to bookmark or email around a photo's permalink.

External Media

JovianArts.com also has a Facebook page which you can like. I post frequent news messages there and it's a way for me to know how many people like the site. I really appreciate anyone doing this and posting comments.

I have also created an RSS feed for people who wish to hear about updates to the site through mechanism. The RSS feed is directly linked to the news section on this site.
